Description

Bratsigovo is located in southern Bulgaria in Pazardzhik district near the towns of Peshtera and Krichim. Its location at the foot of the Rhodope Mountain makes its climate very mild.

The town has a rich history.
It is proved that the Thracian tribe of Bessi inhabited these lands. In the vicinity of Bratsigovo have been found many remains of this mythical population such as: the remains of a Thracian burial, walled tomb, iron tools, coins from the 2nd, 4th and 5th centuries as well as the remains of the Roman era: tools, pots, coins and a bronze statuette of Pallas Athena.
During the settling of the Slavs in the lands of Bulgaria, the Bratsigovo territories haven’t been overlooked. It is believed that the area "Dragunitsa" is named after the Slavic tribe dragovitchi. One of the largest clans of Bratsigovo such as the clans of Tarpomanovi, Likomanova, Yurukov, Petleshkov and especially Gulemetov, are most likely descendants of Slavic time. At 21st of April 1876 Vasil Petleshkov announced the “April uprising” in Bratsigovo. Bratsigovo battle is one of the bloodiest, but the uprising was suppressed, and Vasil Petleshkov has been captured alive and tortured to death. The glorious actions are celebrated each year on the official Day of the city, held on May 12.

Bratsigovo municipality has a rich historical heritage. The municipality has a lot of evidence left by Thracians, Romans, Slavs and Bulgarians.
Mounds in Ravnogor are of Thracian origin. Here is the biggest domed tomb in Bulgaria. The Thracian tombs are from the early Christian church in Isperihovo.
Monuments from the Roman era are: the fortress of the XII century "Vatrahokastron” near Bratsigovo and many bridges, roads as well as Roman sanctuaries.
The City Historical Museum contains many photos and documents, items and weapons, tracing the history of the settlement and the struggles of their inhabitants during the April uprising. The museum is part of the “100 tourist sites of Bulgaria”.
Damova house is a cultural and tourist complex.
Ethnographic exhibition - an outstanding architectural monument in which are exhibited crafts such as: rose brewing, weaving and more.
Exhibition "Bratsigovo School of Architecture" presents the Bratzigovo masters of the Ottoman Empire.

The calmness of the area and the presence of rich sights, both in town and in the vicinity, are making Bratsigovo a great place for vacation combined with cultural enrichment.
