Golden Sands – Modern resort with 50 years of history and traditions

Golden Sands – Only 18km away from Varna – The city of the oldest golden treasure in the world .
As an old legend says: pirates digged in huge golden treasure in the seaside north from Varna. The land took revenge on the bandits and transformed the gold into wonderful sand.
The resort is a popular tourist destination, drawing many visitors from Poland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, Scandinavia, France, Central and Eastern Europe, the Persian Gulf, Israel, and other countries, attracted by the favorable climate, scenic landscape, and reasonable prices. Golden Sands was privatized in the 1990s and attracted considerable investment through the 2000s. Designed initially for 13,000 hotel beds, it had over 30,000 beds reported in 2007; according to Varna Tourist Chamber sources, the actual number was significantly higher , by some unverified critical estimates even approaching 90,000. Currently, most hotels offer all inclusive vacations but there are also concerted efforts to reposition the resort as a high-end destination.

The beach strip in the resort is 3,5 km long, up to 100m in places, and is known as one of the best sand beaches in Europe. It is flat, covered with fine golden sand. The sandy sea bottom gently slopes into the sea, there are no rocks or sudden drops.
The clean and calm waters of the sea with low salinity lower than that of the Mediterranean for example, and the absence of fish and animals dangerous to human health, are ideal for scuba diving and vacationing with children. The cultural and information center in the complex offers a rich and versatile concert program, folk music performances and shows in the open. It organizes exhibitions of Bulgarian artists, courses in the Bulgarian language, folk songs and dances, vanguard fashion shows. You can take part in beauty contests, beer festivals, a parade of retro cars, to mention but a few. You can enjoy the performances at the International Varna Summer Festival of opera, ballet, theater and jazz music, folklore and others.
