Description

The town of Koprivshtitsa is located in western Bulgaria 107 km from Sofia at 1060 m altitude in Sredna Gora Mountain. The population of the town is around 2600 inhabitants.

The historical data of Koprivshtitsa starts form 14th century. Thee villagers have been developing homespun crafts, leather, painting, and other livestock. There has been a lively trade with Istanbul and Alexandria, which reached its apogee in the 19th century. Back then the city's population reaches 12,000 people. They built big houses for their time, schools, churches and bridges.
Due to the privileges Koprivshtitsa’s citizens had, they preserved their wealth after the fall of Bulgaria under Ottoman rule. The riches of the city attracted Kardzhali’s inhabitants, who robbed the town three times and evicted its residents. Koprivshtitsa was burnt down in 1793, 1804 and 1809, but thanks to the patriotism, ingenuity and industriousness of its people, Koprivshtitsa managed to revive the city and to preserve its charm and magic until today.
In 1867, Todor Kableshkov creates student society "Zora". That same year, Vasil Levski is the founder of the revolutionary committee in the town. On April 20, 1876 here the first gun fires, announcing the beginning of April Uprising.

The Bulgarian town of Koprivshtitsa is a museum in which are preserved more than 250 architectural monuments from the time of the Renaissance.
Landmarks are the museum houses of Karavelov, Dimcho Dibelyanov and Kableshkov house. Other landmarks are the church of "Saint Nicholas", Mausoleum - Ossuary and Todor Kableshkov monument.
In the town’s vicinity are numerous hiking trails and eco paths in direction to Bogdan Chalet (3-4 hours walk) from where the ascent is possible to the highest peak in Sredna Gora - Bogdan Peak with 1,604 m altitude.

The infrastructure of the town is well-formed. There are regular buses to nearby towns and resorts, hotels, restaurants offering traditional Bulgarian cuisine, fast food restaurants and shops. Koprivshtitsa is a quiet place particularly beneficial for business trips and vacations for individual tourists.
