Kamengrad  ** - Panagyurishte, Bulgaria

Panagyurishte is a town in central Bulgaria. It is located in District Pazardjik, 43 km north of town of Pazardzhik. The town is the administrative center of Panagyurishte Municipality.

The territories of the town have been inhabited since ancient times. Evidence for that are the numerous Thracian mounds, two of them with significant archeological treasures: a Thracian chief burial in mound "Marble" and the famous Panagyurishte treasure dating from the IV-III century BC.
The convenient location, nature and favorable climate in the area have attracted people in this region also during the Middle Ages. The ruins of the Bulgarian Dushkovchenin and Krassen fortresses are preserved here.
The establishment of Panagyurishte is associated with the dramatic times after the Ottoman invasion, and the wave of settlers that came after the Albanian uprising.
For a long time the individual neighborhoods have fought among themselves and with time the settlement was unified along the banks and tributaries of Luda Yana River.
At the beginning of XIX century Panagyurishte reached significant economic and spiritual zenith. The economic and spiritual boom helped the idea of ​​national liberation to be warmly accepted in Panagyurishte. In the autumn of 1870 Vasil Levski founded a revolutionary committee here, as the assembly is in the house of Ivan Duhovnikov, still preserved in the courtyard of the Historical Museum. In 1876 the city became a center of 4^th revolutionary region and a principal city of the April uprising. In suppressing the revolt, the town was burned and completely destroyed. After the liberation it was built with new buildings, which is the reason why Panagyurishte doesn’t have many Renaissance houses.

The rich history and the activities of the town during the Renaissance uprisings have left behind a wealth of sights: the house-museum "Raina Knyaginya" - birthplace of Raina Popgeorgieva. The exposition tells about the heroism of the Bulgarian teacher and revolutionary, who made the flags for the April uprising. In the yard are buried the bones of the character. The museum is part of The Hundred Tourist Sites of the Bulgarian Tourist Union; Historic area "Oborishte" is located about 8 km northwest of the city. Here on April 14, 1876 a meeting was called for the announcement of the April uprising. The area is part of The Hundred Tourist Sites of the Bulgarian Tourist Union; Historical Museum, which is presenting exposition dedicated to the April uprising, original relics associated with the heroic epic of April 1876, in the courtyard of the museum are shown the reconstruction of the Revival Street where with authentic artifacts and pieces of the craftsmen are reflected the major crafts related to the preparation of the uprising. In the main building of the Historical Museum is exhibited a rich collection of firearms of the 18-19 century, used during the April uprising. In one of the halls of the museum is set a model of Panagyurishte treasure sizes 2-1, accompanied by local guide; The house of Ivan Tutev in which at April 20, 1876 was declared the April uprising. Here is the Karlovo flag, with which was declare the beginning of the uprising; Other museum, which at any rate should be seen is the home of Raina Popgeorgiev. She was only 20, when Benkovski offered to her to sew the rebel flag and embroidered it with tinsel and lion fiery slogan: "Freedom or death!".
“Manyovo” the historic hill hill where at April 30 1876 the bloody battles were fought during the uprising, is now Memorial Complex "Apriltsi".
