Location Description
The town of Sveti Vlas (Saint Blaise) is located on the southern Bulgarian sea coast. It takes the northern part of the bay at which also Sunny Beach and Elenite lay and it has picturesque location. Nestling in the foot of Balkan Mountain’s slopes close to the sea shore with south exposure and view towards the resort of Sunny Beach and the town of Nessebar.
The history of the settlement began at 2nd century when the Thracian established village with the name of Larissa. Its current name Sveti Vlas have received at 14th century, when it’s named after Saint Blaise the protector of tradesmen, breeder and healer, but later the name was changed. During the times of Ottoman rule there are several known names of the village and all of them were connected with the monasteries in area. They were 5: “Sv. Petar”(St. Peter), “Sv. Iliq” (St. Elijah), “Sv. Andrey” (St. Andrew), “Sv. Anna” (St. Anne) and “Sv. Vlas” (St. Blaise). Unfortunately all of them were destroyed in 18th century by pirate forays, but ruins can be still seen today. So the Turkish called the village Kyuchyuk manastir (Kyuchyuk monastery) while in the registers the village has been written as village of Manastir (village of Monastery) and even the big archeologists the Shkorpil brothers mentioned the village with that name in their chronicles. After the liberation the village takes its old and current name – Sveti Vlas and its written in the registers with it after 1886. In 1963 the village is announced as a climatic marine resort and in 2006th with a decision of the government. In the following 2007th the biggest yacht harbor in Bulgaria – Marina Dinevi with capacity of 300 yachts.
The position of the town between the mountain and the sea makes its climate suitable for healing of pulmonary and bone diseases. Its frontage is with the length 1 km and the sand itself is fine and gold. The combination of sea climate, fresh mountain air and beautiful nature is perfect. The town possesses multiple hotel complexes mostly composed by apartments and with its small population and calmness in addition it’s the best destination for family holiday. And yet we shouldn’t forget that you can reach Sunny Beach in a blink of an eye form there and the two resorts are connected with public transport. So you can visit the biggest sea coastal resort of Bulgaria at any time and to spend a crazy night in its disco clubs while the cozy calm frontage of Sveti Vlas awaits you to regain your strength after the nigh life. If you are fan of the romantic though, you can enjoy the sunrise from your balcony with your partner and some drinks. The proximity of the resort with the mountain area is blessing it with calm mornings and breezy afternoons even in the hottest months of the summer. That is why Sveti Vlas is a preferred destination for Bulgarians and foreigners.
