The village of Stoikite lies in the center of the southern half of Bulgaria, in the very heart of the Rhodopi Mountain, 15 km away from the small town of Smolyan and only 7 km away from the winter resort Pamporovo. The village is 250 km away from the capital Sofia and 90 km away from the second largest city in Bulgaria – Plovdiv, which has its airport for charter flights.
The climate is perfect for summer as well as for winter recreation with 4 months of snow cover and 240 sunny days per year. Scattered among 5 different hamlets and has preserved the authenticity of a real Rhodopean village and the Bulgarian national traditions and culture, the village of Stoykite attracts thousand of tourists and offers wonderful opportunities for rest and recreation in the atmosphere of the long past times. The 1-, 2- and 3-star hotels and guest houses that can accommodate more than 800 people and the various restaurants can meet the requirements of different types of tourists.
Beginners in skiing can take the easier run, which is in the middle of the village and is equipped with a ski-tow. The other run is near the Mount Cherni Vrah, in the area called Enicharsko, and it is also equipped with a ski tow and offers ski rental.
The Rhodopi mountain is a place where hospitality has no seasons. In the summer it offers countless fascinating possibilities for active recreation and tourism. One can touch the secrets that the mountain jealously keeps by visiting some of the historic monuments: the ancient fortress of “Sveti Vrach” or the Thracian necropolis near “Sveta Elena”. If you like nature you can take one of the ecologic or tourist walks in the area of Stoikite, Grashtitsa, Solishta, Stikal, Shiroka Laka and Gela, as well as the nearby mounts Goliam Perelik, Snezhanka and Mechi Chal, which offer extraordinary views.
Those who seek for extreme sensations can go climbing, riding, biking and diving into wild caverns with the help of professional guides and wearing the appropriate equipment that you can hire there.
However, one can not feel the spirit of the mountain without visiting one of the old mountain settlements: the architectural reserve of Shiroka Laka and Cheshitska Mahala in Smolyan.
In the village one can see one of the most interesting Rhodopean churches – “St. St. Peter and Pavel”. From the yard of the church St. Nedelya you have a breathtaking view of the landscape looking toward Turlata Peak. Such a marvelous view can rarely be found anywhere else in the Rhodopes. Above the village of Stoikite is the natural site called "Chernoka" where a group of more than 300 years old Black pine trees can be seen.
