Description

Tsarevo is located at 70 kilometers distance south from Bourgas on two small peninsulas and three bays, which makes it unique for Bulgaria. The old name of the town is Vasiliko and for first time is mentioned in 12th c., but the historical data are indicating that it’s under that name from 7th c. On the southern headland of Tsarevo are located ruins of fortress from the middle ages. North from the town during archeological digs were found amphorae and ceramic vessels from 4- 6 c.

In the past, the town has been famous with its fishery, but bigger fame brought its traditional shipbuilding. The conditions for this field were great, because of the sandy shore located close to the peninsula and the plenty of wood material in Strandzha Mountain. In the past century every shipyard had its own distinguishing mark in the ships. The mark of the Vasiliko’s ships is the strongly extant in the front, sharp stem. And because on Greek language that part of the ship is called “Karina” the local people were called “kakarini”. Here were built mostly small and middle size ships, but there are cases of large ones such as the biggest Bulgarian ship from wooden material – “Goryanin”.

Nowadays those branches are left behind and the main one is the tourism. Its location that we already mentioned makes him extremely beautiful destination and it plays huge role in the development of the region. The low slant hills of Strandzha Mountain, overgrown with venerable oak forests, are smoothly descending towards the sea, which had cut the shore on many small bays and peninsulas. The coastline is highly disjointed and it alternates rocky peninsulas with small picturesque beaches. Many people are saying that the town is a small variant of Rio de Janeiro. This splendid view can be observed from Papia peak with 502 meters in altitude, which is located south from Tzarevo. Despite that the landscapes are dazzling, the building is not annoying.

There are 5000 beds in hotels and private villas, which compared to the biggest sea side resort in Bulgaria- Sunny beach with 500 000 beds, is almost virgin nature.
Tzarevo entertains its guests with organizations of regattas, competitions of windsurfing, underwater fishery, and traditional events like the holidays of the arts, Neptune’s days and the Honey festival. The symbol of the town is the “St. Trinity” church, which is built in 1831 and it stays lonely on the south peninsula of Tzarevo.

The delight and the calmness that the resort gives, are not to be found elsewhere, and the multiple places of entertainment and the market are completing the needs you’ll have on a holiday.
